Artist and Critique: Abd El-Raouf Sham’oun

The more an artist is faithful to his spatial and even psychological environment, the more he grants balanced specificity to his experience.
Nasr Jawabreh is an artist in this context, where the reciprocal relationship, which found its way over the only space, that which allows the artist to be himself during those moments of plastic act, or at least to look for his creative self. This essential element- the environment- is not an intermediary, but a visual catalyst that is influential and charged with the will of formation in a manner that exceeds what sentiments can give.
Jawabreh’s work presents a group of adjoining installations that have a construction, quasi-geometric spirit, but that have a unified pattern, realized through a thorough technique that attempts at reducing the distance between the potential energy of expression within the association of the visual scene, and a careful inclination towards abstraction, an artistic desire that diffuses affinity through reducing these elements.
Hence, Jawabreh’s works seem like rephrasing, which is aesthetically broader than it looks in its visual exterior. He is keen on demonstrating their ability to merge on the surface and leave that prominent or engraved effect, such as small signs, scrapes, scales or scratches, in order to attain that approach towards what looks like primitive walls, or doors, or parts of them that indicate an environment of the periphery, with its worn-out metal surfaces and the attempts of time to leave an impact.
Hence, and within the visual conveyance rationale, Nasr Jawabreh’s works disclose their reference, that are gently transforming with the substances and their reactions, and the obvious contrast between light and dark, in two opposite directions. At the same time, they create that balance of color between the two poles, downward, upward, left and right. Hence, he is realizing the principle of color motion, outward from inside and vice versa.
