Belongings of the Soul
Samar Ghattas

When you look into your eyes in the mirror
You see people you know
You know from where to approach them
And why you treat them like they are part of your own self:
This is one aspect of a “wide world”
A world:
Consisting of complex details
And “different stories”
These stories:
Influenced you and compensated for your
Naivety and ignorance
These stories were formed and united with you
With your concerns through
Their concerns:
Crystallized in your own persona and views on life
Your life:
Not different from the others lives
But others:
Don’t feel what you feel
Your feelings:
Are unique and ambiguous unfolding manipulations and wishes
Thus encompassing pain and victories, secrets and desires,
Encompassing the search for help, anger, love and sacrifice and other things
These things are:
Secluded, dark, selfish in their approach towards
Preserving the self and the self-worthiness
Your eyes guard it so that it doesn’t escape your mouth
Your eye:
Is your mouth
It is you and your belongings together
You:
Is you
And they:
With all their aspects and contradictions are
“Belongings of the Soul”
