Sliman mansour - situations

The exhibition situations spotlights mansour's sculptures and reliefs from the last ten years. Mansour became one of the first Palestinian artists to diverge from painting and begin experimenting with the three dimensions of mud. He works with a powder- like substance found in large quantities in the region. In contrast to traditional ceramic clay this is not fired in a kiln. It contains natural glue agents and becomes extremely hard and durable when mixed with water and dried in the sun. sinceprehistoric times it has been used for building houses, often mixed with straw to make it lighter in weight.

Mansour's works in mud reveal a contemporary and experimental attitude towards the material, in addition to more classically constructed 3-D sculptures, he has also created a number of reliefs in which the mud is frequently combined with other material in both figurative and non-figurative expressions.
