This exhibition is about Hulagu, the Mongolian leader who had invaded Baghdad in the 13th century AD, and destroyed its civilization, burnt its libraries, and devastated its scientific and cultural sites. I did not deal with this subject politically. Instead, I express the tremendously rich cultural life in Baghdad then through music and its artistic and cultural manifestations. My paintings are highly decorative, rich with symbols, and geometric forms, and very narrow colorful spaces. Music, in my opinion, can not be destroyed. It remains in the soul and the heart, imperishable and everlasting. It remains floating in Baghdad’s sky awaiting a new rebirth.
