Israeli Apartheid Wall and Palestinian Water Resources

Materials: Water, Glass, Aluminum, Gravel, Sand/ Soil, Stones, Barbed Wire, Dried Plants

Our project addresses groundwater issues associated with the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and the newly erected apartheid wall. In its strategic location, as it sinuously winds along the Palestinian landscape, the wall was designed to deny Palestinians access to subterranean water resources.

The glass enclosure represents a cross-section of the geological layers of the Palestinian terrain. The lower par of the class box represents the groundwater which can not be accessed by Palestinians. Above the water, gravel representing limestone and sand representing soil are intermixed to give the effect of geological layering. The wall is rooted in this terrain and is symbolically surrounded by barbed wire suffocating all the life around it.We interjected bits of dried leaves, twigs, and wild flowers within the wall frame.
