Ramallah Room of Memory
|
Faces, Places and Ceremonials
Scores of old photographs are projected in the Ramallah Room of Memory. They represent
images of how Ramallah looked 50 or 60 years ago: idyllic landscapes filled with terraced
hills, olive groves, grape vines; decades old photos of then popular locations, streets,
buildings, shops, school - all of which have either changed drastically, some which no longer
exist. Cinema Dunia, The Grand Hotel, the Manara were such landmarks in the visual and
social representation of Ramallah then. To the people of Ramallah today, there may be other
landmarks more familiar and more reflective of the present. Also shown in this room are
images of private and public occasions, religious and national events, as well as portrait
photos of weddings, notaries, and important public figures in the Ramallah social and political
scene of the past.
