Contrary to What Women Like
Dina Mattar
|
My paintings represent the world we were left with after the war that destroyed every single
aspect of life and reduced all that is beautiful to ashes.
During those difficult times, the notion of human age lost its value, an antithesis to women
who hide their real age and perceive their lives as something very valuable.
Being a woman myself, I live in a world of dreams with which I colour whatever hope we were
left with, in spite of the pain we feel.
My works embody my insistence to still exist and my love for life, and reveal that which is
beautiful from a very personal and contemporary perspective. The use of bright colours is an
invitation for hope, optimism and joy – a way of expressing existence.
