The Germ
Abdallah Al Ruzzi
|
It is the pain which still lives in the darkness of our abysmal and still depths… It is a weeping
sound that follows us everywhere we go… The danger is inside us, it lives and grows inside
us, and it eats and eats and eats us…
It is the germ of this age… a cancer eating up everything and living anywhere… it even eats
up metal, and lives in the air…
It was somewhat annoying, heavy, painful. I couldn’t make out its form, its colour, height,
structure… I’ve never seen a germ in my entire life… But I wanted to visualise it for the
world, and transform it into something we see and can touch… For it exists in our lives and
amongst us…
We only see its traces, in the night… after we fall asleep and it lies there somewhere inside
us, without us even knowing it. It enters into our subconscious, and we begin to feel weighed
down… We feel some unknown massive thing inside us, coming and going, and when we
wake up we realise that it is pain.
